Kalen first began her yoga practice in 2012 when, in the midst of marathon training, she realized that it might be a good idea to start stretching. She discovered that after many years of competitive kayaking, running, and cycling her body could do a lot, but also needed some serious care and recovery. As her practice evolved, she began to discover the benefits of slowing down to connect with breath and to appreciate the opportunity to notice what’s going on in her heart and mind as well. She believes this inner connection and self-awareness helps her to be a better parent (and a better person). She is enthusiastic about creating the space for others to also find these benefits through yoga. In her classes, she strives to provide a balance between empowering challenges and chances to slow down and be gentle with oneself. After practicing yoga throughout two pregnancies, she also has a passion for sharing her experience with other pregnant students and helping them find strength, comfort, and peace through prenatal yoga. Kalen graduated from 200-hour teacher training at 5 Points in March of 2020 and is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with the Yoga Alliance. She has also completed a prenatal workshop for teachers with Krista Jones.
